Senior Manager – In-house, Liverpool
Competitive salary dependent on experience and qualifications + benefits + bonus.
This is a really interesting high profile in-house role in a household name business. Based in Liverpool this role has arisen due to continued growth within the business.
The Senior Manager, Tax will be responsible for maintaining the tax compliance requirements for the business and all associated subsidiaries of the Holding Company. While the core business is UK based it has many international aspects and has an overseas US parent. The aim of the role is to comply with tax legislation in the UK, overseas and also to manage the day-to-day US tax reporting requirements to parent company. The Senior Manager, Tax will liaise with relevant departments to assist with tax planning and to offer solutions to tax problems. The Senior Manager, Tax will also support the VP, Tax, in dealing with HMRC enquiries and also enquiries from overseas tax authorities. They will also manage and develop a more junior member of staff and be actively involved in educating the business on relevant tax issues.
Key aspects of the role:

Tax /Financial Reporting:
• Ensure that all monthly and annual direct tax deadlines are met for UK and overseas tax authorities
• Preparation of US tax forecasts for the parent company that are required throughout the year
• Liaise with the Financial Reporting team to ensure that monthly management reporting and financial forecasts include all tax considerations
• Maintain and reconcile tax balances on general ledger
• Work closely with the Finance Team to ensure the Financial Model and 5 year plan is updated for all tax considerations
• Preparation of tax disclosures in the annual financial statements for all UK Group companies
• Proactively managing SAO obligations including internal risk monitoring

Tax:
• Manage tax provision and tax compliance process.
• Identifies potential risks, develops strategies for mitigation along with responsibility for maintaining the tax risks and controls matrix.
• Regular liaison with HMRC for tax compliance matters.
• Review opportunities to benefit from tax incentives such as R&D tax credits, film tax credits, enhanced capital allowances/super-deduction/full expensing.
• Keeping relevant teams in the company (such as Legal, Finance, HR) updated on changes to tax.
• Ensures that all tax laws are followed by company employees.
• Support the VP, Tax on other matters of taxation including employment taxes and VAT.

Commercial:
• Reviewing commercial contracts and advising on key financial (payment terms) and tax (corporation tax/withholding tax issues).
• Assist the VP, Tax with integrity and financial due diligence (including sanctions/PEP screening) for new commercial partners.
• Support recovery of withholding tax through contract gross-up clauses.


Other:
• Liaising with third party professionals including industry specialists, external solicitors, other accountants, tax advisers and independent financial advisers.
• Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices.
• Business partnering with HR team to manage and advise on:
o Guidance on the tax implications of a globally mobile employee group.
o Permanent establishment risks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Functional/Technical Skills:
• Relevant accounting/tax qualifications – ACA / ACCA / CA / CTA.
• Proven work experience as a tax manager.
• Excellent knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns.
• Knowledge of tax software and Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience in liaising directly with HMRC.
• Experience with US taxation and US reporting desirable.
• Sufficient knowledge in tax accounting, tax compliance and tax returns.

This is a great opportunity with scope for development. Would suit a qualified tax professional (ACA, CTA, ICAS, or ex Inspector) who has large group corporate/international tax experience and ideally some experience of working in-house. Liverpool based; this role can be hybrid worked (min 2-3 days in the office). Experience of US GAAP reporting, VAT or Employment taxes would be beneficial but not essential - the key thing is a 'can do' attitude and the ability to pick up new skills.
