Senior Tax Manager (HNW clients)

The Role: Working for a leading Chartered Financial Planning firm the Senior Tax Manager will be a tax expert with the technical ability to advise and manage a highly varied portfolio of High Net Worth Clients on complex tax advisory and compliance matters.  The Senior Tax manager will be a team player, who can help guide, support and develop the Tax team.

The Team: The in-house Tax Team provide tax advice and compliance for a wide range of High Net Worth individuals and trusts. The majority of the team’s work covers income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and pension planning tax advice, but they do also provide business services such as accounts and payroll.

Senior Tax Manager Responsibilities:

Run a portfolio of high net worth clients, taking a pro-active approach to tax planning (across all taxes) as well as being reactive to client queries as and when they arise.
Ensure compliance deadlines are met and beneficial claims and elections are made within deadlines e.g. PPR, holdover, EIS.
Prepare and review personal and trust tax returns
Deliver consistently high-quality tax work, including supporting colleagues in the Financial Planning team with ad-hoc queries.
Support the development and management of the tax and business services team, including running team meetings, coordinating training and development etc.
Drive team performance improvement, quality control and best practice
Help monitor the flow, accuracy and quality of work within the team, ensuring any advice is provided on a timely basis and clients are allocated appropriately.
Identify opportunities for new client work via internal and external networks to help meet new business targets
Monitor client fee costs against budgets, keeping write-offs to a minimum and negotiating fee increases as appropriate.
Liaise with tax team coordinator and internal accountant to ensure timely invoicing of clients and identify any blockers. Providing support to the wider team where necessary.

 

Senior Tax Manager, Skills and Experience required:

A chartered accountant specialising in tax (FCA/ACA) or CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser)

Experience of high net worth individuals, dealing with all types of personal tax planning including IHT/trust/offshore.
Good understanding of all personal taxes – income, capital gains and inheritance tax.
Some knowledge of overseas tax planning for non-resident and non-domiciled clients, tax planning with trusts, tax issues on investments (including insurance bonds, VCTs, EIS/SEIS/CITR, offshore funds (reporting and non-reporting) etc).
